Staff at Whitfords Dental Centre donned their superhero best on Saturday 17 September for their second annual Children’s Day.
Children’s Day was dreamt up by the Dental Centre staff as a way to support local children in Princess Margaret Hospital and this year as well as dressing up, all the staff donated their wages for the day to the Foundation. They raised an amazing $2249.09 on the day from volunteering their time and collecting donations from patients.
We spoke with the team about their fundraising and how Children’s Day came to be.
Why did you decide to fundraise for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation?
The Foundation is an absolutely amazing cause that focuses on the wellbeing of children and their families when they need it most.
Supporting the hospital is also in alignment with our focus on oral hygiene awareness for children. We wish to support children to achieve the best oral health which in turn leads to overall health during their lives. A healthy young generation makes for a healthy and happy future!
How did you raise funds?
We were able to raise funds by holding a Children’s Day which focussed on promoting oral hygiene in children and having fun. All of our staff volunteered their time so their wages could be donated to the Foundation. Everyone was involved from our principal dentist, our five oral health therapists, practice manager, dental assistants and all the front office staff. The team conducted treatments and cleans on children together with educating their parents about the importance of oral health. We also collected donations from our generous patients and we are truly blessed to have such generous patients and staff.
What did you like most about your fundraising? We loved seeing the generosity of our colleagues and patients, as well as the fun atmosphere we created while promoting oral health. I loved the face painters and that our staff dressed as superheroes to really connect with the kids. It was a fantastically fun day where our team came together as a unified group for a great cause!
What advice would you give to others who are interested in fundraising for Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation?
Do not hesitate at all!
It is the spirit and generosity of community that really makes a difference to those who need it the most. The future depends on our children and healthy/happy children who are offered kindness from strangers will touch our lives in ways we can only imagine.
